France - Hauteford to Chauvigny

Back on the road again we head off towards Limoges and stop at the small town of Saint Yrieix la Perche. St Yrieix is a medieval town so we parked and wandered around the 'old city'. The house here shows the typical old style of building for this area and behind it is the tower 'Tour du Plo'. This is the oldest non-religious monument in the town built in the 1200s. It represents the power of the Vicomtes de Limoges in the Middle Ages. Justice was dispensed in this 20m high tower and the ground floor also acted as a prison.
